While Agamemnon was away in Troy, Aegisthus courted Clytemnestra. Atreus Thyestes Agamemnon Menelaus Clytemnestra Iphigenia Aegisthus  Agamemnon and Aegisthus are first cousins; their fathers, Atreus and Thyestes, Iphigenia and tricked his wife Clytemnestra into bringing Iphigenia to Aulis. This act causes Clytemnestra to swear revenge against her husband. She takes his cousin Aegisthus as her lover and plots with him to kill Agamemnon when he   Pelopia killed herself, and Aegisthus killed Atreus, thus restoring Thyestes to the throne of Mycenae.

And when Agamemnon returned from Troy, bringing his lover Cassandra with him, Clytemnestra became even more enraged and she slew both Agamemnon and Cassandra with an axe. Clytemnestra was enraged by Iphigenia's murder (and presumably the earlier murder of her first husband by Agamemnon, and her subsequent rape and forced marriage).
